Mahmoud Dahoud was the first Albion player to be sent off under Roberto De Zerbi.

The midfielder was shown a straight red in the 1-1 draw versus Sheffield United.

The Seagulls went 63 Premier League matches without a dismissal, dating back to the VAR-influenced straight red shown to Lewis Dunk at Manchester United in February, 2022.

In total, Albion went 76 games in all competitions without a player being sent off.

Dahoud was the 13th different Seagulls player to be dismissed in the Premier League – and the ninth to be shown a straight red.

Dunk has been sent off four times and Anthony Knockaert twice, making 17 reds in total.

Only four came in the first half – with Aaron Mooy the only player to be dismissed for a second yellow before half-time.

Dahoud’s dismissal was only the sixth in home Prem games.

Apart from the players mentioned above, Dale Stephens, Davy Propper, Shane Duffy, Florin Andone, Neal Maupay, Robert Sanchez, Ben White, Yves Bissouma and Tariq Lamptey have been sent off playing for Albion in the Prem.

Any theory that players might have found it easier to keep their cool when stands were empty is perhaps undone by the fact Albion had five reds when playing behind closed doors in 2020-21.
