Melissa Phillips told her Albion team they deserved their momentous win at Manchester City.

Former City duo Pauline Bremer and Lee Guem-min teamed up for the late winner on the Etihad campus.

Bremer produced a great ball across the face of goal and Lee pounced at the far post for the only goal of the WSL contest.

Albion, denied a win over Manchester United a week earlier by a goal deep into added time, this time held firm for the second win and first clean sheet of the league campaign.

Speaking in the post-match huddle, Albion boss Phillips told players: “It only takes one chance.

“You were brave in the first half, you figured it out.

“You adapted to changes yet again in the second half.

“That’s going to make us difficult to play against for any team.

“You deserve this and we keep building from here.”

England duo Chloe Kemp, very early on, and Lauren Hemp, in their late attempt to rescue a point, both hit the woodwork for City.

Albion: Baggaley, Li Mengwen (Rule 78), Bergsvand, Thorisdottir, Kullberg, Losada (Symonds 63), Pinto (Carabali 46), Zigiotti, Robinson (Sarri 90+6), Bremer, Terland (Lee 63).
