Simon Adingra and Ansu Fati starred as Albion withstood Ajax’s late onslaught to top their group with a 2-0 victory, writes Anujith Vijayamkumar.
The Ivorian Adingra capitalised on a mistake by teenage Ajax midfielder, Silvano Vos, and played a pass through to find a bursting Fati on the edge of the box.
The Spaniard in turn put the visitors up ahead early in the first half, as he converted from 12 yards out to give Roberto De Zerbi’s men the lead.
Fati and Adingra combined once again to double Albion’s lead in the second half on the night. The on loan forward from Barcelona, carried and progressed the ball into Ajax’s defensive third before slipping the ball into the path of Adingra, who slotted the ball past Diant Ramaj with a tidy finish.
The relentless nature of the Dutch giants was on full display as they attempted to recuperate themselves with a good sequence of play. However, their efforts fell short as Brian Brobbey’s efforts struck both posts before the ball was cleared out by skipper, Lewis Dunk.
The Seagulls’ visit to Amsterdam proved to be a success as Roberto De Zerbi’s men travel back to Brighton with three points in the bag.
