Jan Paul van Hecke says eyes will be on him he plays for Albion at Ajax.

The defender is one of three Dutchmen in the Albion squad, along with Bart Verbruggen and Joel Veltman.

He expects the locals will focus on him if selected - ad he would love the chance to impress.

Van Hecke said: “I think that people in the Netherlands do watch the Premier League, but perhaps less focused on one player.

“If you show it in the Netherlands against Ajax in the Europa League, it will of course be extra noticeable, if you do it well.

“It went well two weeks ago. If it goes well again tomorrow, I think it will be good for me."

Speaking in Dutch to local reporters, van Hecke said he is enjoying his football under Roberto De Zerbi and added: “It's very special. I have only words of praise for this manager.

“If you see how he has changed me as a player, I have become so much better and have made so many steps.

“I think I can still make a lot of progress under this trainer, so I can only praise him.

“His working method is very detail-oriented, focused on the little things that really make you better.

"He has taught me so many things, that you actually have a completely different view of football.

“I think that really says it all.”

Van Hecke played age group international football with Brian Brobbey, the Ajax striker he could face.

The Albion man has ambitions to make the senior level for Holland and admitted: "Of course it would be nice to be called up.

“That is an honour and a dream for me, it is the same for every Dutch boy who loves football.

“So in that respect, yes, but it's not much on my mind.

“I'm just trying to focus on what I can do and play well and thereby show myself.

“I think that's the most important thing. But will this be a good exam for me? For sure."
