Albion will arrive in Amsterdam being seen as the biggest test yet of a potential Ajax revival.

The Seagulls train at the imposing Johan Cruyff Arena late on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Thursday's potentially pivotal Group B fixture in the Europa League.

Bart Verbruggen, Albion’s Dutch goalkeeper, believes Ajax will have been eyeing their home date with Premier League opponents.

Speaking after his return to the side at Everton on Saturday, Verbruggen told The Argus: “I am not a person to read the news too much but I know that everyone speaks about Brighton.

“I know fans of Ajax have probably circled next Thursday in their diaries so it will be a nice game.

“I know a couple from the national team and the national youth teams. It will be nice to see them again and hopefully beat them.

“I know Kenneth Taylor for a long time, Brian Brobbey, Steven Berghuis, Steven Bergwijn.

“I am sure I am forgetting some!”

Verbruggen would love a second club fixture in his homeland, to follow an outing for Anderlecht at AZ Alkmaar in the Conference League.

The retractable arena roof was closed on Tuesday to protect the pitch from occasional but heavy downpours.

Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi is highly likely to be asked for an update on his left-backs when he speaks to reporters in Amsterdam.

Tariq Lamptey pulled out of the Everton game during the warm-up having been named as a substitute while Pervis Estupinan has been out for several weeks.
