Albion’s latest Irish teen goal-getter has been likened in some ways to Evan Ferguson – by the man himself.

Mark O’Mahony scored twice for the under-21s at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon while Ferguson was enjoying a return to the goal trail for the seniors.

O’Mahony, 18, has scored eight goals in seven Premier League 2 games this term and is second top marksman in the division.

Ferguson said: “He’s big, sort of a similar size to me, and he likes to score goals.

“As a striker that’s what you like to do.

“I know he’s got a good record in the under-21s now so hopefully he kicks on and we see him here soon.”

O’Mahony was signed from Cork City and comes from rural southern Ireland.

Dublin boy Ferguson joked: “It’s farmers’ land!

“He has trained with us a few times. He’s good company, he’s a good lad.

“He works hard and is very concentrated.”
