Albion fans paid tribute to a man for the big occasion before their win over Ajax.
The Amex rose and offered applause in honour of Gerry Ryan, who died recently.
Ryan’s famous goals for the club included the winner over European champions Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
He also scored home and away against mighty Liverpool in FA Cup ties in successive seasons and netted on the day the club won promotion to the top flight for the first time.
Supporters responded to a call from the club to hold aloft scarves in a show of colour and support ahead of the match.
They sang the name of Solly March, sidelined by a serious knee injury, early in the game.
Ajax fans had half the South Stand and showed some defiance in the later stages.
There also seemed to be a lengthy exchange going on between away supporters and players while Albion took the applause from the rest of the stadium after their landmark win.
