How good were Manchester City and how sub-par were Albion?

That was the big question in the first half at the Etihad as the treble winners threatened to run riot.

The Seagulls were sharper in the second half and caused a few concerns around the Etihad.

JASON STEELE 7/10

Deceived by a fortunate finish by Alvarez and Haaland shooting early. Did well enough from then and saved well from a Haaland blast in the second half.

JAMES MILNER 4/10

De Zerbi highlighted a lack of support but there is no doubt that, apart from one hard but fair challenge, he was given a torrid half-game by Doku. Those struggles would have been brought into sharper focus had Doku's finishing been less wasteful.

LEWIS DUNK 8/10

The one tower of resistance in the first half with some well-timed interventions and he later started the move for the goal with a cool-headed bit of covering work.

IGOR JULIO 6/10

Given a tough first half, like several others, and was unable to stop Haaland getting off a second-half shot. But also did some good work.

SOLLY MARCH 7/10

Playing on a yellow card, he did his job defensively and offered something going forward when Albion stepped up a gear in the second half. Didn’t give Baleba the easiest of passes ahead of City’s second goal but his afternoon will be remembered for the injury.

PASCAL GROSS 6/10

Easily beaten by Doku for the first goal and it felt like his busy fortnight had caught up with him. But he got into some dangerous areas in the second half, without finding the best delivery.

CARLOS BALEBA 6/10

Some good work at times but his part in the second City goal cannot be overlooked. This felt a steep learning curve for a player who is clearly a bright prospect.

SIMON ADINGRA 6/10

Did not do enough with or without the ball in the first half but offered a bit more in the second, his highlight being the pass which sent Gross in towards goal.

JOAO PEDRO 5/10

Lost the ball too easily on the occasions in the first half when he had chance to hang on to it.

KAORU MITOMA 7/10

Was exhilarating on several occasions in the second half, be it out wide or coming off his wing. But all those pluses are counter-balanced by the fact he should have scored from at least one chance.

DANNY WELBECK N/A

Had started the game quite well when injury struck.

SUBS – EVAN FERGUSON 6/10

A mixed performance after replacing Welbeck. Was better in build-up play in second half.

JOEL VELTMAN 7/10

Introduced at half-time. His defensive performance against Doku was just what was expected and needed.

ANSU FATI 7.5/10

Immediately gave Albion a new energy and direction. Sent Mitoma clean through and later grabbed his second goal for the club.

BILLY GILMOUR 7/10

While not to the same dramatic extent as Ansu, he also added life and energy to Albion.

JAN PAUL VAN HECKE N/A

On at the end.
