Fans enjoyed a sunny afternoon in Manchester as they watched Albion go toe-to-toe with last season’s treble winners.

It was a tough start for the Seagulls who went two down in the first 20 minutes thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland for City.

Pep Guardiola’s side looked like they would go on to punish Albion further with most of their threat coming from young winger Jeremy Doku up against veteran James Milner.

Brighton were second best for the whole first half but improved after the break.

Joel Veltman came on at right back for Milner who struggled against Doku.

Kaoru Mitoma should have scored when he was one-on-one with Ortega in goal but the keeper was quick in rushing out and did not allow Brighton’s winger much time.

It looked like City were going to make it 3-0 when Steele was caught off his line when making a clearance.

Captain Lewis Dunk, who had an impeccable afternoon, controlled Alvarez’s long shot and moved Albion up field.

Within 17 seconds Albion scored through Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati who finished a swift counter attack with a good strike at the near post 73 minutes in to make it 2-1.

The most disappointing point of the afternoon was the unfortunate injury to Solly March.

Albion’s long-serving winger, deputising at left back yesterday, landed awkwardly and his right knee buckled inward.

He had to be stretchered off and it looks like a serious one.

Brighton host Ajax on Thursday, October 26, at 8pm for their third Europa League group match.
