Three of Marseille’s bigger names – including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - have been urged to up their game against Albion.
OM are preparing to face the Seagulls in Europa League action at Stade Velodrome.
They have lost their last two league games and are working under a new coach in Gennaro Gattuso amid unrest behind the scenes.
The city’s daily newspaper La Provence describes the situation today as “the joys of a sporting and institutional crisis at l’OM”.
Spanish goalkeeper Pau Lopez, who was once on Albion’s radar, came in for criticism after allowing two shots to fly inside his near post in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Monaco, where Marseille led twice.
But La Provence today pinpointed the under-performing outfield trio they believe carry some of the blame for recent disappointments.
They have highlighted essentially the spine of the team in former Prem striker Aubameyang, skipper Valentin Rongier in midfield and ex-Newcastle centre-back Chancel Mbemba as men who should be offering more.
Aubameyang scored twice against Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifier and added a double in the Europa opener at Ajax, where Marseille drew 3-3.
But the 34-year-old has not yet struck in domestic action.
Former Marseille midfielder Edouard Cisse told La Provence: “He’s a bit lost and, when you’re lost among ten lads who are also lost, it’s even harder to find your place.”
Aubameyang has played against Albion on nine occasions for Arsenal and Chelsea.
He scored in the first three of them but has not netted in the subsequent six.
Meanwhile, L'Equipe highlight the important loss of injured midfield powerhouse Geoffrey Kondogbia, for whom tomorrow's game is expected to come too soon as he recovers from an adductor problem.
They speculate that Aubameyang's starting place is coming under threat from Portuguese forward Vitinha.
Probable Marseille XI (as per L'Equipe): Lopez; Clauss, Gigot, Mbemba, Murilo; Ounahi, Rongier, Veretout; Ndiaye, Aubameyang (or Vitinha), Correa (or Sarr).
