Adam Webster admits he lost confidence after a bad day at the Amex.
But the defender hopes he has shown he is ready for more action after a winning return to the side.
Webster was part of the come-from-behind 3-1 success over Bournemouth which took the Seagulls to 15 points from six matches.
He had an unhappy afternoon in their one setback, at home to West Ham. Webster told the Argus: “The last time I played was against West Ham.
“Obviously I didn’t have a good day that day and it affected me quite a lot, to be honest.
“I maybe lost a bit of confidence from that. It can happen.
“You can have bad days and I knew I had to wait for my chance to get back in. I have done that and hopefully I have done enough to show the manager I’m ready.
“It’s difficult when you lose games, it’s never nice, but it’s how you react and learn from that.”
Thoughts now turn to the Carabao Cup tie at Chelsea, with Roberto De Zerbi set to talk to the media today ahead of the third-round clash - with Albion keen to attack on all four fronts this season.
Webster said: “Obviously we want to go as far as we can in every competition and we have got a strong squad and everyone is pushing so it’s another chance for us to go there and show the manager what we’re about and everyone fighting for their place.”
He is aware many fans would love to beat Chelsea again and said: “Yes, maybe it adds a little bit more spice to it but, for us, we are going to go there and try to play our stuff and get through to the next round.”
