Joao Pedro has been told he can perform “better and better” as he hopes for another chance to shine.

The former Watford frontman converted two Europa League penalties against AEK to follow an impressive goal-scoring display as sub at Manchester United last Saturday.

He is among Albion’s options to face Bournemouth at the Amex today (2pm).

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi rates the record signing highly but said: “Joao Pedro can play better. He can play better and better.

“But he’s a good guy. I want to help him to reach one level higher.

“He can play better with his team-mates. He can play better in our style.

“He can improve to become a complete player.

“He has incredible potential and I want everything from him.

“He can play No.10 and in that situation he can be smarter, to find the right position to receive the ball between the lines.

“When he plays like a striker, he has to be smarter to attack the space, to score when he has to score.

“But my work is to improve the players. One part of my work is to improve the players.”

De Zerbi is working hard with Joao Pedro on the training itch.

He said: “Yes, I am strong with him.

“I am strong with a young player when I understand the potential.

“I push. Or we are fighting together so that we reach one level higher.”

De Zerbi is keen to help players such as Joao Pedro improve.

He said: “I help them understand the play, to understand the tactical situation.

“The connection with his teammates and the understanding of the different situations on the pitch during the game is important.

“But he wants to improve. And he’s a good guy. I have no doubt he will improve.”
