This is how Albion rated on their big European night.

Collectively, AEK were well organised and robust and the Seagulls stuggled to work their way through, pull them out of position and play their usual passing game.

But they still did enough to have got at least a point.

JASON STEELE 6/10

A bit unlucky on the third goal, nothing he could really do with the first two. Did not have much else to do bar one save from Garcia but we did not see as much of his playing out as normal.

JAMES MILNER 6/10

A good run and clever pass stood out in attack during the first half and was at full stretch to defend ahead of the first goal. His record-breaking night (the first Englishman to play for five clubs in Europe) ended in injury.

JAN PAUL VAN HECKE 5/10

A very testing night and incredibly mixed performance. Not the first Albion centre-back to look less secure without the skipper alongside him. Was caught out at times, including when he conceded a free-kick for the second goal and even more so when he picked up a yellow, but was decent at others. His highlights were a goal-saving tackle and a superb pass through the crowd which released Joao Pedro for what should have been 3-2.

IGOR JULIO 5/10

A debut on the left side of the pairing and, looking comfortable on the ball,he tried to pull AEK on to him in possession. Wasted a great chance to score with a header. AEK got in behind the defensive unit at times. Showed a no-nonsense side in the way he picked up his booking to halt a counter attack.

PERVIS ESTUPINAN 6/10

A quiet performance by his eye-catching standards. Back in the side and combined with Mitoma at times but AEK did a good job of shutting down his forays.

PASCAL GROSS 7/10

The skipper for the night did a decent job looking to keep the ball moving and twice forced Stankovic into slightly panicky saves with well-struck shots.

BILLY GILMOUR 6/10

A quiet evening as Albion probed for a way through the crowd..

SOLLY MARCH 6/10

Got into a great position early on without picking out a team-mate and worked hard trying to make a difference. But AEK often shut down his route and forced him to double back.

ANSU FATI 7/10

Looked a talented player in a new team – which is what he is. Some really good little touches and turns which did not lead to as much as they might have. Tested Stankovic with Albion’s first shot of the night but it feels like there is a lot to look forward to.

KAORU MITOMA 5/10

The rare sight of the Japan winger being taken off told the story of a match in which he got into good areas and, at times, went outside his man without the desired end product.

JOAO PEDRO 8/10

Very much the main man as he forced two penalties, converted them very coolly and created so much danger, including a great cross which Igor should have heded home. But should have finshed or set up Mitoma when clean through at 2-2.

SUBS – TARIQ LAMPTEY 5/10

Looked like he might add penetration down the right but was caught out on the winning goal.

DANNY WELBECK N/A

Sent an instinctive header over in the late push for another equaliser.

SIMON ADINGRA N/A

Created the one moment which really looked it would make the score 3-3 with great footwork and a searing shot. But took wrong options at other stages in the frantic finale.

FACUNDO BUONANOTTE N/A

Sent on late (albeit with 17 minutes to go as it turned out) but could not manufacture a way through the traffic.
