Jake Robinson continued his comeback from injury with a precious FA Cup goal for Worthing.
But Roco Rees took headlines at the other end of the pitch as Rebels won 1-0 at Eastbourne Borough in the second qualifying round.
Robinson, who recently came back from a year out with a knee injury, rose to head the only goal at Priory Lane.
But Rees was the star for the visitors, not least with a stunning close-range save late on.
Worthing boss Adam Hinshelwood said: “It was an unbelievable save. He is the reason we are going through.
“We have got to count ourselves extremely lucky.
“We have got to work tirelessly on the training field this week.
“We have nothing to build on today apart from Roco’s performance.
“For 20 minutes we were all right but we didn’t create anything.”
Borough boss Mark Beard said: “We created 16 chances and I would say five were clearcut but it wasn’t our day.
“I’m disappointed to go out of the FA Cup.
“We keep going, we keep working hard every week.
“I see so much in training but I just need to see it out on the pitch.”
