Danny Welbeck has been told he is playing like a youngster after he turned back the clock at Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United striker opened the scoring as Albion beat his old club 3-1.

Welbeck returned to lead the attack with Evan Ferguson coming on as sub after knee bruising.

He was one of the experienced heads in a high class performance from a Seagulls side showing six changes to the XI.

Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am not surprised.

“I know Danny Welbeck very well and he is an incredible player.

“Now is one of the best moments in his time in Brighton, he is playing like a young player.”

Welbeck’s goal – followed by strikes from Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro - was his first of the season.

De Zerbi said: “I ask them to score but the qualities of Welbeck are many because he can play No.9 like a striker but also No.10.

“He understands the play, the timing, the right moment, he is a very smart player.”

Albion rested Pervis Estupinan after a tiring trip to South America as well as Solly March, who had a minor injury.

They sent on Ansu Fati for his debut with his side leading 2-0.
