Pascal Gross believes Albion are learning to adapt to any test.

And that flexibility may well have helped him to the brink of an international debut for Germany.

Gross is in the frame for playing time in tomorrow’s friendly against Japan in Wolfsburg.

Germany then take on France in Dortmund on Tuesday as they continue the long build-up to hosting the Euros next summer.

Gross has responded to different tactical and positional challenges set by Roberto De Zerbi and believes that is helping him improve his game.

He said: “I try! Every day in training I try to learn every day, I hope it is progressing.

“All round play, adapting to different positions and to different teams and the way they want to cause us problems.

“Newcastle was very different to West Ham, for example.

“We need to adapt and find solutions.

“It doesn’t matter how opponents want to cause us problems.

“I am really excited about the season and I am looking forward.”

Gross said it was a proud family moment to receive the call-up from Germany boss Hansi Flick.

He added: “The manager called me to tell me I was in the squad and I told my family - my parents, my wife, my little boy, all of is normal.

“They come to a lot of games. They support me. My while family comes – like everyone.”
