Albion keeper Bart Verbruggen is relishing the competition for places in Roberto De Zerbi's squad.
The Dutchman made his debut against West Ham United at the weekend, following his £16.3million summer arrival from Anderlecht.
But it turned into something of a baptism of fire as the Londoners produced a surprise 3-1 win at the Amex.
Asked if he felt it had been a harsh welcome, he said: "Yes. It’s the best league in the world, so the finishes are good as well.
"It’s such a disappointing result. I think we had control of the game for the most part, but a couple of counters did us. So, disappointing."
Albion had 78 per cent of the possession against the Hammers, but the visitors took the lead through James Ward-Prowse on 19 minutes.
"Billy [Gilmour] did a great effort to block the first one," added Verbruggen.
"I dived for the first one as well so I had to get up, and it was a bit unlucky with the block. It happens."
Jarrod Bowen doubled their lead after a swift counter-attack just before the hour, then set up Michail Antonio to drive home a third minutes later.
"I would like to watch it back," said Verbruggen.
"After every goal I feel maybe I should have done this or I should have done that so I don’t yet.
"I’ll go home and rewatch them and discuss it in the club and see."
Opposite number Alphonse Areola produced a fine save to deny Evan Ferguson an equaliser early in the second half, but was eventually beaten by Pascal Groß.
The Frenchman then denied Joel Veltman and tipped another Ferguson effort onto the crossbar.
"He had a brilliant game," added Verbruggen.
"I think probably one of the best of his life. He was really good. Unlucky for us, but all praise to him."
Having seen Jason Steele play the first two matches of the season - 4-1 wins over Luton and Wolves - Verbruggen claimed he wasn't surprised to get the call.
And he feels De Zerbi has plenty of options in his squad, adding: "He [Jason] was doing really well but the thing is we have a team where in every position we have more players who can play and make an impact.
"I think that’s the biggest strength about this team. If a person gets replaced, nothing really changes.
"Of course everyone has his own characteristics and qualities, but there’s no huge changes.
"I know that’s a strength of the team and everybody needs to be ready every week and that’s what I try to do."
