Bart Verbruggen could have not dreamt of a tougher debut as Albion lsot to West Ham, writes Carlos Acosta Juckes.
The game started promising as the keeper produced a save to maintain his team in the game.
However, it soon turned into a nightmare as within the visitors second chance, James Ward-Prowse converted the counter-attack to put his team in the lead.
Not to blame Verbruggen as it was rather more a defensive mistake.
Despite being down at half-time, not much work was needed as Albion were controlling the game and ended the first half with 84% of the possession.
He came boldly to deal with a couple of crosses.
The second half kicked off with the same rhythm as the first. West Ham´s first shot came on the 53rd minute but nothing important.
Five minutes later Jarrod Bowen extended the score, then Michail Antonio made it three.
The striker bodied Adam Webster and finished to the far post, where Verbruggen was unable to reach.
Whilst opposite number Alphonse Areola had the game of his life with crucial saves and keeping his team’s lead, Verbruggen had the most undesired debut.
He has ability to pass the ball and was confident through the game.
During the 90 minutes, no mistakes were made and all passes (22) were completed effectively.
He also saved well in a one-on-one very late on.
