Julio Enciso has been told to come back from injury and play like he did at Wolves.
But Roberto De Zerbi wants a new signing after losing his rising Paraguay star for months.
The Albion boss said Enciso would be missing “for a longer period” with a knee issue and accepted he could be out for three to four months.
He spoke to the player on Thursday evening to give him support and tell him to work hard on his recovery.
De Zerbi has no doubts Enciso will be back to his sparkling best as soon as possible.
He said: “I made a video call with my staff and he was good.
“Sad for the injury because Julio lives for football and he loves football 24 hours per day.
“But I explained to him it is a normal situation in football.
“He has to work to be back like the Wolverhampton game.
“But I have not doubts.
“Unfortunately it can happen in football. I am sorry for him because he was playing very well but football is like this sometimes.
“Before the injury of Julio, my focus has been on other attackers.
“Especially now, without Julio, I think we need another player.”
