Roberto De Zerbi wants to add to his table-topping squad.
But he says money cannot buy a key element which will help them progress.
Goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Pervis Estupinan and Solly March (2) saw Albion win 4-1 at Wolves.
De Zerbi still hopes to add a midfielder with similar characteristics to the departed Moises Caicedo and a player in another, unspecified, position.
The head coach said: “I want to wait until the transfer window is closed before speaking about the target.
“We need to wait for three or four games because it’s important to start winning for the confidence and to find the character of the team and the style and mentality of the team.
“I think this game can be crucial for us because the last 20 minutes I didn’t like – we could play better and stay in the game better.”
He added: “The mentality, you can’t find in the transfer market.
“The mentality you can improve. You can speak and analyse the improvement in the mentality, but to reach the right mentality, you have to want to get there.
“I think that’s the most important point we can improve. We can become better if we improve the mentality.”
Albion, for whom Adam Webster, Billy Gilmour and Julio Enciso came into the XI, now prepare to face a West Ham side who shocked Chelsea 3-1 yesterday.
