An Albion footballer is among the 23-strong team that could take England to its first ever Women’s World Cup victory.
Katie Robinson, 21, is part of the squad in Australia and New Zealand for this year’s tournament and could join her fellow teammates in making history on Sunday.
Winger Katie began her rise to the England team by playing in local boys’ grassroots football in Newquay, her home town. She also honed her skills at the Cornwall Girls Advanced Coaching Centre and played for the Plymouth Argyle Boys’ Centre of Excellence.
After becoming a regular at national training camps, Katie started her career as a professional footballer in 2018 after being snapped up by Bristol City.
After scoring her first senior career goal for Bristol City in December 2018 in the Women’s Super League, she joined Brighton and Hove Albion’s women’s team in 2020.
Katie also represented England as part of the Young Lionesses, scoring England’s third goal in a 6-0 victory over Moldova at the 2019 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship qualification.
After impressing with her performance in the Women's Under-23 team in their autumn internationals, Katie received her first call-up to England’s senior squad in November last year for games against Japan and Norway in Spain, making her debut in the Norway match as a substitute.
Katie went on to be included as part of the England squad for the Arnold Clark Cup earlier this year, making appearances in fixtures against South Korea and Italy.
She was named as part of the 23-player squad for England in the Women’s World Cup in May but has yet to make her debut at the tournament.
Could Sunday’s final see Katie make an appearance as England (hopefully) take home the most prestigious title in women’s football? Make sure to watch the Lionesses as they take on Spain at 11am.
The fixture will be broadcast live on BBC One, with full coverage starting from 10am.
