On-loan Albion goalkeeper James Beadle has been told he was “immense” as he helped his team to one of the results of the night in the EFL.
Beadle was between the sticks for Oxford United in a 2-1 win at Derby County before a crowd of 25,292 in League One.
He was picked out along with young Irish defender Stephan Negru for their mature displays as the U’s held on to a narrow lead at Pride Park.
Oxford skipper Elliott Moore said: “People look and see Steph playing his fourth league game, Beads in goal being a young lad, but both of them have stepped up to the plate and delivered.
“They were both immense and that gives everyone else confidence, but I thought everyone stepped up and performed.”
Beadle, who made a couple of tip-overs and was a presence in goal, is looking to follow up a promising half-season on loan at Crewe last term.
He had a quiet game on Saturday as Oxford got their season up and running after a slow start with a 1-0 win at home to Carlisle.
They face a testing trip to Barnsley on Saturday.
Jensen Weir made his Championship debut on loan to Blackpool by going on as a 77th-minute substitute in the 0-0 draw with Port Vale.
