Albion could add to their their array of emerging South American talent.
The Seagulls are interested in bringing Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco to England.
The 19-year-old can play in various roles down the left, including as an attacking full-back.
Albion have built an enviable reputation for developing talent from South America in recent seasons.
Barco is understood to have a release clause worth about £8 million.
Pervis Estupinan has been a sensation for Albion as a marauding left-back since succeeding double player of the year Marc Cucurella.
However Albion have little back-up or competition for the Ecuador star.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed recently he added left-sided Igor Julio as a centre-back rather than full-back.
It is believed Barco is keen on the move but would love to stay with Boca all the time they remain in the Copa Libertadores, in which they have reached the last eight.
