Bobby Zamora believes Albion can cope with the extra demands of Europe this season.

The former Seagulls striker has spelt out what he would consider a season of achievement for his old club.

And he reckons Paul Barber could be in for a busy time while the transfer window remains open.

Albion are preparing for their Premier League opener against Luton with Europa League football not far away.

Zamora, who helped Fulham reach the Europa League final, knows the challenge which lies ahead.

He said: “It has been a progression every year.

“It is certainly going to be hard with the number of games.

“Hopefully they have a lot of success in Europe, which means it is going to even more games.

“That’s going to be hard. I’m sure the manager is going to want a big, strong squad.

“Paul is going to be pulling out the few strands of hair he has left trying to keep him happy!

“But it’s just an exciting time.

“Top end of the table and a great run in Europe would be an achievement for me.”

Luton have signed former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley on a free transfer.

Former England international Barkley, 29, spent last season at Ligue 1 club Nice following his departure from Chelsea by mutual consent.

Barkley – who played for England at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and also had a loan spell at Aston Villa – could make his debut for the Hatters in their opening Premier League match at the Amex on Saturday.

“Why Luton? Going from the Conference to the Premier League is a great story and for me personally to be back in the Premier League, it’s great motivation,” Barkley said on the Luton club website
