Moises Caicedo has been encouraged to focus on his football as Albion prepare for the new season.

The club's technical director David Weir has spoken of the challenges facing the Ecuador midfielder as speculation continues about his future.

Caicedo has been subject of four unsuccessful bids so far this summer, three of them from Chelsea.

Weir accepts the player could be distracted by such attention but says Albion are “very relaxed” about a situation which for now remains unchanged.

He told Sky Sports News today: “We have not had an acceptable offer for Moises so it is really clear for us.

“Moises is our player, he is under contract.

“He has been fantastic in terms of what he has done on the pitch for us.

“He has been a big part of our success and that remains the case.

“There has been lot of information in the media, there has been a lot of talk but, from our perspective, we are really calm.

“We would love Moises to be here.

“He has been fantastic for us. We would love him to be here longer.

“But we are also realistic in terms of what the marketplace looks like.”

Weir says Albion will support Caicedo, 21, as attention on his future continues.

He added: “We know it is not easy for the player.

“Moises had that situation in January and we would like to think we helped him with that.

“I think Roberto (De Zerbi) was really important in terms of how he brought Moises back into the group.

“He showed his quality when he was on the pitch and that is always the best solution.

“I think Moises did that and deserves credit.

“The message to him is just focus on the football.”
