Chelsea want to make Robert Sanchez their latest recruit from Albion.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have made a bid for the Spanish goalkeeper, The Argus understands.
A move would reunite Sanchez with his mentor and former coach Ben Roberts, who is still on the Chelsea staff having joined when the Albion coaching staff jumped ship en bloc early last season.
He would also link up with compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Sanchez’s future has remained in doubt since he was dropped by Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi in early March.
It is unclear what Albion’s response to Chelsea’s offer will be although it is easy to see why it would appeal to Sanchez.
The Argus reported in early July that a loan for Sanchez could not be ruled out and Albion would go into the new Premier League season with Jason Steele, Bart Verbruggen and Tom McGill as their goalkeepers.
There have been few reports of interest in Sanchez during the summer.
Were he to seek a return to Spain, Villarreal are the most in need of a goalkeeper among leading clubs in LaLiga EA Sports.
