Albion saw defeat against Newcastle United for their final Premier League Summer Series match in New Jersey.

Danny Welbeck put Albion ahead shortly after the break after lively work from Kaoru Mitoma, but two goals from Elliot Anderson in the final seven minutes gave Eddie Howe's team the victory.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi said he was happy with the first hour of the match and said the closing stages were an opportunity for some of the youngsters.

Adam Lallana dragged wide a glorious opportunity in the early stages as Albion pressed high against the Magpies.

Newcastle’s new signing Harvey Barnes nearly punished Jan Paul van Hecke for a misplaced pass but a vital touch from Joel Veltman took the ball away from the former Leicester City man and his scuffed effort was saved easily by new keeper Bart Verbruggen.

Buonanotte had claims for a penalty waved away and Pervis Estupinan smashed a half volley wide in an entertaining first 45 minutes.

Welbeck scored soon after the break after a trademark Mitoma run and cut back which he tucked home.

Buonanotte saw his low effort at the near post saved by Nick Pope after Mitoma countered from a Newcastle corner.

Albion then brought on a number of youngsters which saw Newcastle take control of the game.

The Magpies also utilised their youngsters with a number of changes from the 75th minute.

Jensen Weir, Ed Turns, Imari Samuels, Yasin Ayari and Cameron Peupion all came on around the 60 minute mark.

Verbruggen pulled off an incredible save to deny Anderson from close range after a pass into Jensen Weir inside the box was pounced on by Newcastle.

A miscommunication between Ed Turns and Yasin Ayari inside the box allowed Elliot Anderson to win the ball before smashing it past Verbruggen in the 86th minute.

Anderson would get the better of Ed Turns in defence after a long ball was played past Albion’s high line to make it 2-1 in the 92nd minute.

Speaking after the game, head coach De Zerbi said: “I’m really happy, we played a great game. We played 60 minutes in an amazing way.

"The last part of the game we closed with our under 19s. We have a lot of young players and we have to give them the possibility to make mistakes but it’s not a problem. They will become great players too.

“It has been a great experience to play in the USA, it has been fantastic. It was a very good experience, we worked very well to improve our knowledge and idea of football. We have not had an injury. I am very happy."
