Roberto De Zerbi went back to his old home ground to watch some of the brightest youngsters in Italy.
The Albion head coach watched Lecce under-19s beat Fiorentina 1-0 after extra-time in the final of the national youth championship.
The game was staged at the Mappei Stadium, home of Sassuolo.
De Zerbi saw a cosmopolitan mix of talent given none of the Lecce starting XI were Italian.
By contrast Fiorentina, who are having a bad time in cup finals of late, had ten Italians in their initial line-up.
There is no indication De Zerbi was there specifically on a talent-spotting mission.
However he got a first-hand view of the leading scorer in Italian youth team football this season.
The match featured Rares Burnete, a 19-year-old Romanian who scored 21 goals in 35 games for Leece in league and cup.
He will also have seen three others who were named the best in their positions this season – Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode, Lecce left- back Patrick Dorgu and Fiorentina central midfielder Lorenzo Amatucci.
