Albion are likely to be linked with ongoing interest in Levi Colwill – after a report they had a bid turned down.

The defender showed great potential as a left-footed central defender on loan to the Seagulls during his debut Premier League season.

Sky Sports yesterday reported an unsuccessful initial offer of £30 million from Albion but that has NOT been confirmed.

However, while they will have other options, it would be no surprise if they have approached Chelsea over the England under-21 international.

Roberto De Zerbi has made his admiration for Colwill clear and it is not considered a certainty that he would sign an extended contract with Chelsea.

Albion would offer him the prospect of European football next season and the chance to continue to work with De Zerbi and his staff.

The head coach said recently: “I would like to work with him for another two, three, four years because it’s difficult to find another left centre-back with his qualities. He’s a good guy, he’s improving a lot.

“This year his improvement has been fantastic and I hope he can stay with us.”

England boss Gareth Southgate, who recently recalled Lewis Dunk, has made it clear he has also noticed Colwill’s part in Albion’s record-breaking season.

Mauricio Pochettino is set to take over at Chelsea as they look to improve on this season’s 12th place amid considerable upheaval.

While Pochettino is said to be keen on keeping Colwill, it appears clear Chelsea also need to trim their squad.

Colwill has thoroughly enjoyed his high-flying season with the Seagulls.

Albion will be keen to get a significant part of their business done as soon as possible and already have Joao Pedro on board with free-agent midfielders James Milner and Mahmoud Dahoud expected to follow.
