Levi Colwill will return to the Albion squad as they face Southampton.
The defender was rested at Newcastle due to fatigue.
Jan Paul Hecke started at the back with Adam Webster also absent.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi also limited Alexis Mac Allister’s minutes, sending him on as part of a triple change around the hour mark.
He gave youngsters Odel Offiah and Cam Peupion, making his Premier League debut, outings in the second half.
De Zerbi said he was also being careful with workloads of Danny Welbeck, Deniz Undav, Billy Gilmour and Facundo Buonanotte.
Explaining Colwill’s absence from the 20, De Zerbi said: “Fatigue – he didn’t play today but on Sunday he can play, for sure.”
De Zeri also replaced Pascal Gross during the second half.
He said: “I didn’t want to take any risk with Pascal because he had a yellow card.”
