Former Albion defender Uwe Huenemeier has announced his retirement at the age of 37, writes Carlos Acosta Juckes.

The German player shared via Facebook a statement where he explained that, after 18 years as a professional, it was time to hang up his boots.

He started his career at Borussia Dortmund and was signed by the Seagulls in 2015.

He had three years at the club and played a combined total of 27 games.

Most notable was an important role in helping the team achieve promotion to the Premier League in the 2016-2017 season.

He then signed for Paderborn, where the player will retire after the end of the season.

He said: “II look back with much joy and pride at all I have experienced and achieved.”

Paderborn are currently sitting fourth in Bundesliga 2 and the player assures the fans to be focused until the end of the season.

He added: “We´ll knock it out again in the final few weeks to achieve the best possible end of season.
