Simon Adingra is a bright young prospect who is currently plying his trade on loan to the Belgium club Union Saint-Gilloise.

He has appeared in the Jupiler Pro League, Belgian Cup, UEFA Champions League plus UEFA Europa League.

He has featured in 45 out of 46 games so far but not for the full 90 minutes in every match.

He remained on the bench in four of them.

With the majority, however, he has either started and then been replaced or graced the turf as substitute.

He has found the back of the net 11 times and has one of the best assist records in the Belgian top-flight.

Here are a few snippets from the season so far.

Against STVV, he breezed past the defence before curling the ball past the goalkeeper.

In the Champions League game with Glasgow Rangers, he sped down the left flank before offloading the ball to Dante Vanzeir in the danger zone.

When Eupen were the opponents, Adingra produced a splendid strike, floating over the goalkeeper. He was also excellent versus Braga and supported Hakan Gustaf Nilsson in both his goals with brilliant passes.

In the emphatic demolition of Cercle Brugge, Adingra sprang down the left and gifted Vanzeir who went on the score.

In the same game, he was isolated with the goalkeeper and fired home.

Sadly, though, when Club Brugge were the visitors, he saw red and received his marching orders for a foul in the penalty area.

During the entertaining fixture with Oostende, Adingra started with a great break, linking extremely well with an assist from his teammate Victor Boniface.

When Union SG played Eupen, he was rewarded with the ball from Teddy Teuma before darting past his marker.

He then unwrapped a curling piece of magic past the away side’s goalkeeper on the edge of the box.

At present Union SG are perched second in the table and Adingra needs to be commended for his hard work.

It paid off in March of this year when he got the news that he was called up to the Ivory Coast national team for two Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches with Comoros, though he did not get on the pitch.

His colleague Vanzeir said: “In the locker room, Adingra is very calm and a bit timid, but on the pitch he can do magical things.

“His acceleration is enormous. He immediately takes two metres on the opponent.”

When Adingra made his loan move, Albion’s technical director David Weir said: “Simon had a real breakthrough season in Denmark last season and this will give him the opportunity to build on that with regular football at a really good level.

“There’s also the chance of European football, which alongside adapting to a new country and league, will help him develop as a person and a professional.”

He appears to be doing just that.
