Robert Sanchez has suddenly been selected by two head coaches in quick succession.

The goalkeeper who lost his Premier League place with Albion comes back into the side as they face Grimsby in the FA Cup.

He has also survived a clear-out and maintained his place in the Spain squad.

Sanchez will relish his chance to shine at the Amex after Jason Steele was promoted to the Prem side in recent weeks.

Steele has now had the gloves for three league games, including a pair of clean sheets at the Amex.

He has been in good form with hands and feet but Roberto De Zerbi says his decision is largely down to playing style.

Steele seems to cope better for now with the demands of the Italian coach as his side draw opponents on to them and play out short.

De Zerbi said: “Robert is working very well. The decision was only for the style of the keeper, not attitude or other things.

“We have two keepers that are different, but both are very good.

“It was a difficult decision, but Robert knows very well my opinion, what I want to see in his style of play.

“The quality of Robert is clear.”

“Spain can help him. The problem is not to work harder or better, it’s the characteristics, only this.”

De Zerbi thought long and hard before giving Steele his chance in the league.

He said: “Before the decision I didn’t sleep for a lot of nights.

“It was a very difficult decision.

“I was sorry for Robert. I know the mentality of the players when they don’t play, but I have to be honest and to follow my idea, to do the best for the team.”

Sanchez got the call from new Spain boss Luis De La Fuente despite losing his starting role with Albion.

Only 11 members of the squad which went to Qatar for the World Cup were on the first list revealed by De La Fuente yesterday.

Unai Simon, first choice goalkeeper under previous boss Luis Enrique, is absent with an Achilles injury.

That has clearly opened the door for one of three Prem-based keepers in the squad.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, in good form of late under the coaching of Ben Roberts at Chelsea, returns to the set-up with David Raya completing the goalkeeping triumvirate.

Simon’s absence means the starting spot for Euro qualifiers against Norway and Scotland will be up for grabs.

Kepa appears to be thought of as favourite for selection although clearly these are uncertain times with La Roja.

Ecuador trio Moises Caicedo, Pervis Estupinan and Jeremy Sarmiento were all named in the first squad chosen by new head coach Felix Sanchez Bas.

They have two friendlies against Australia, in Sydney and Melbourne, and will be flying via Houston.

Julio Enciso is in the Paraguay squad to face Chile while Alexis Mac Allister and Facundo Buonanotte were recently named in the Argentina group for the world champions’ homecoming friendlies versus Panama and Curacao.
