Adam Lallana has sets his sights on a return to action this season – after signing a new deal.
The former England and Liverpool midfielder is on board until the end of next season.
He is currently in rehab after undergoing hamstring surgery.
He will be working hard over the forthcoming international break and says his season is not over.
Lallana said: “It is going as well as it could be.
“I will be out running early next week so I’m definitely going to be back before the end of the season if things keep going well.
“There’s plenty to play for, with us being in the cup still, games being re-arranged towards the back end of the season.
“There is plenty for me to work towards.
“But I am still in and around the team and in all team meetings and at the games, so I still feel I am contributing in every way I can.”
Lallana went down injured away from the ball during the 2-2 draw at Leicester in January.
He felt he had been playing his best football for a few years in the preceding weeks.
But the subsequent enforced lay-off could have fringe benefits.
He said: “Hopefully having the surgery will clear up a few persistent problems and I can crack on.
“Things are going really well.
“I have got an important three or four weeks coming up.”
