Moises Caicedo received warm applause from the Albion supporters as he returned to the Amex following recent transfer speculation, writes Joe Grant.
Caicedo replaced Billy Gilmour in the 57th minute in Albion’s late victory against Bournemouth.
The Albion faithful made it clear they had not turned on Caicedo, clapping him and singing his name as he entered the pitch.
Roberto De Zerbi decided to bench the Ecuadorian, despite missing Adam Lallana in midfield due to injury and Alexis Mac Allister being suspended for the match.
Before the game, the Italian asked fans to support the Arsenal target.
De Zerbi said: “I want to speak to my fans because I want them to support him.”
The Albion supporters did as their manager asked, cheering him as he warmed up along the touch line during the first half.
Caicedo had put out a post on social media during the week asking the Seagulls to let him join Arsenal, who had put in a reported £60 million pound bid for the midfielder.
Albion rejected the offer and the Ecuador international returned to help his side go into sixth place.
