Roberto De Zerbi said Leandro Trossard has picked up an injury.
The Belgium international missed yesterday’s FA Cup tie at Midldlesbrough.
He had previously been unused substitute in the midweek win at Everton.
De Zerbi appeared to question Trossard’s commitment ahead of the Boro trip.
Asked after thw 5-1 win why Trossard was not in his matchday 20, the Seagulls’ head coach said: “Yesterday he didn’t train with us. He has a problem with his calf.”
De Zerbi will have selection options for Saturday’s home game against Liverpool.
Danny Welbeck returned from injury, Deniz Undav scored as sub and Evan Ferguson was again lively as he started the game.
Kaoru Mitoma and Solly March continue to impress out wide.
De Zerbi appears to have four players for three spots in midfield in Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Adam Lallana and Pascal Gross.
But he also sees Trossard as a key player if he is at his best.
