Whitehawk’s mid-season wobble continued on Boxing Day as Shaun Saunders’ side were on the wrong end of a Boxing Day cracker, going down to a 3-2 defeat at Three Bridges.
It had been 19 days since the Hawks were last in action on a freezing evening in Sevenoaks, and there was a similar feel to this one as the visitors once again slipped to a two-goal deficit inside the opening half.
Curtis Gayler thundered the hosts in front with a well-struck free-kick that deceived Luke Glover in the net, before Noel Leighton coolly added the second.
But the Hawks bit back with a swift two goals of their own.
Charlie Lambert fizzing one into the corner minutes before new signing Luke Robinson flicked home from a matter of yards to bring the scores level.
With Whitehawk in complete control it was the interval that would stop their momentum as not seven minutes after the restart Bridges added a third with a lighting quick counter attack.
The Hawks huffed and puffed but could find no further way beyond Leo Anderson as Saunders stares at a fourth league defeat from his side’s previous five outings, now slipping out of the play-offs.
“I haven’t got any arguments, no qualms”, Saunders said on the Boxing Day defeat.
“I think we’re missing a spark at the minute and that needs to happen sooner rather than later.
“But we’ll work hard this week and try and put things right next Monday”, he added.
Whitehawk return home on Bank Holiday Monday by welcoming Haywards Heath Town to The Enclosed Ground.
