Alexis Mac Allister has been left lost for words by Argentina’s progress to the World Cup last four.

But he is being talked about as a possible target for major clubs as he shines in Qatar.

The Albion midfielder is preparing for tomorrow’s semi-final versus Croatia.

He played the full 120 minutes of the controversial quarter-final against the Netherlands and asked to take a penalty, although his services were not needed in the shoot-out.

Mac Allister is being speculatively linked with interest from Juventus, Inter, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, whose boss Diego Simeone has been following his country’s progress closely.

But Albion protected their position by securing him on a new contract shortly before the World Cup. His current deal runs until June 2025, with an additional one-year option for the club.

Mac Allister told fans after the quarter-final: “There are no words to explain what we are living.

“Thank you for your unconditional support. All together until the end.”

Many Albion fans will be supporting Mac Allister after England went out of the competition to France on Saturday.

They were possibly surprised he did not feature in the shoot-out, given he is Albion’s regular penalty-taker.

It is understood every Argentina player was keen to take a penalty to help knock out the Dutch as emotions ran high.

His services from 12 yards were therefore not needed among the initial five to step up.
