Albion’s stars played a big part as Ecuador impressed again in the World Cup.

Moises Caicedo and Pervis Estupinan were both heavily involved in the Enner Valencia goal which secured a 1-1 draw with Holland.

Estupiñán was hugely impressive and had a goal disallowed as his side came back from conceding early on.

They probably deserved to take all three points but are closing on qualification for the last 16.

Jeremy Sarmiento completed an Albion trio on the pitch for the latter stages.

Caicedo played an unfortunate part as Holland took a fifth-minute lead.

He eventually did well to win the ball, then sent a loose pass and Cody Gakpo punished him with a super finish.

It was a nightmare start for La Tri but they settled.

Caicedo had a shot blocked as Ecuador upped their game.

From the rebound, Caicedo worked a nice combination down the left with Estupinan.

Caicedo got to the byline but his cutback was cleared.

Then Estupinan got a long way forward down the left and stood up a ball which Virgil Van Dijk did well to clear.

Valencia cut inside and fired in a low drive which giant keeper Andries Noppert saved at his near post.

But it was a lot better from La Tri, with Caicedo their driving force, often popping up on the left.

Estupinan is not known for his set-piece delivery with Albion.

But he has that role with the Ecuador and has performed it well.

He curled and dipped a tempting free-kick in from the left in first-half added time, right on Valencia’s head.

The ball was deflected behind for a corner, from which the ball was driven goalwards.

Estupinan reacted brilliantly to deflect it home and ran away in celebration.

He was clearly onside but Jackson Porozo, who was in front of the keeper, clearly wasn’t.

The goal was disallowed after a VAR check — but debates with the officials continued as players left the field for half-time.

It did not take long after the break for the equaliser to come - with the Albion men involved.

Holland never looked comfortable as they tried to play out from the back.

Caicedo eventually nicked the ball off them, Estupinan drilled in a shot and, when Noppert did well to parry, Valencia tapped in the rebound.

With Ecuador dominant, Gonzalo Plata crashed a shot against the underside of the bar on the hour.

Sarmiento went on as sub in the 74th minute, replacing Michael Estrada, and took up an attacking role in support of Valencia.

Estupinan was still working wonders down the left, forcing a corner against the odds from which Angelo Preciado volleyed hurriedly and wastefully high and wide.

Valencia was stretchered off in the 90th minute after going down with a knee injury.
