Goals, so many goals.
So rarely have those who brave every known element on route to The Enclosed Ground witnessed such attacking zest from a Whitehawk side, writes Isaac Gleave.
It’s been relentless, tireless - four times the net rippled on Tuesday evening as the Hawks cruised to yet another victory, this time by a 4-0 scoreline over promotion hopefuls VCD Athletic.
And with it Shaun Saunders’ side are now just three points adrift of the table-toppers Ramsgate with a game in hand.
Battered and bruised after Saturday’s well-earned point at 2nd placed Ashford United — Charlie Harris sealing a point for his side with a wonderfully taken free-kick — Tuesday’s game arrived with a point to prove, with ground to make up.
Another excellent display, Joe Shelley gave the Hawks an early lead from the penalty spot after Jack Holland was shown a straight red card for handling on the line.
All of the possession and more of the intent, it would take until the 50th minute for Whitehawk to double their advantage as Rob O’Toole recorded his fourth goal of the campaign with a well-taken strike from 25 yards.
Nathan Cooper tapped home a third before Kai Brown sealed it with another close-range finish as the Hawks extended their richly impressive unbeaten start to the league season.
It’s laudable stuff, and Saunders’ free-flowing side are back in action on Saturday as they welcome Hythe Town to The Enclosed Ground looking to place more pressure on the few that lurk above.
