Albion's search for a new manager or head coach is expected to continue into next week.
But there are claims in Italy that Roberto De Zerbi is favourite for the role.
The Argus has been advised an appointment does not appear imminent - although clearly recent events have shown the unexpected can suddenly happen.
De Zerbi, the former Sassuolo and Shakhtar boss, is without a club and was revealed last weekend to be studying Albion matches in the hope of being called for an interview.
His long-time friend Michele Criscitiello, chief executive of Sport Italia, tweeted this evening: “The negotiations between Roberto De Zerbi and Brighton are proceeding with optimism.”
He said De Zerbi “remains in pole position, with the parties that close to closing (a deal)”.
