New Crawley director Phil Jarman insists the club's takeover is all above board.

The local hairdresser has been named as part of a consortium of businessmen who have bought the club from the company owned by Chas and Azwar Majeed, The SA Group.

They will work under the name of Prospect Estates Holdings Limited, which was officially registered today (Tuesday) and is based in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Their address is the same as that used by Boston United Football Club Business Promotions Limited.

The new company's location has sparked speculation that Crawley manager Steve Evans is linked with the takeover, claims that he denies.

Evans had two spells over nine years in charge of Boston United and was consistently rumoured to be involved with the company who owned the club, Lavaflow. He quit to take over at Reds last summer after the Pilgrims had been plunged into administration.

Crawley have claimed former owner John Duly is part of the buy-out but uncertainty surrounds his role in the deal.

Duly sold the club to the Majeeds in 2005 but was still waiting for a significant amount of the purchase price.

Despite the mystery surrounding the takeover, Jarman has reassured fans there is nothing underhand.

Jarman, who owns a hairdressing business in Pound Hill, said: "This is not a fly-by-night thing, we want to do things properly. There will be no hiding things or secrets or lies. What you see is what you get because that is the best for the club and the fans.

"The Majeeds have come under a lot of criticism but I have to say that Chas has been very good during the time of the takeover.

"He could have pulled out and let the club go under but has been funding everything to make this possible.

"We want to be different to the former owners, we want to make it a community club and to get the fans involved."

Jarman says the number of investors in the consortium is still to be finalised.

He said: "There will be probably five or six other guys but it is open for anyone else who wants to get involved.

"We want it to be a community club run by local businessmen and there will be shares available for anyone who wants to come on board."

Asked who Prospect Estates Holdings Limited were, Jarman said: "That is the main holdings company and will be the banner which will be flying."

Jarman moved south from his Scottish home 20 years ago and says, like all Reds fans, he wants to see the club fulfil its dream of playing League football.

He said: "I was asked to get involved earlier this season and I went for it because the potential of the club is massive.

"I'm a Crawley fan first and foremost and I would be standing behind the goal supporting the team if I wasn't doing this.

"Steve Evans has a three year plan to reach the Football League and has done well with the budget he has.

"He will have an increased budget next season and it would be great if we could reach the play-offs but we also need to be realistic because we are competing with teams like Torquay with much bigger budgets."
