Albion boss Dean Wilkins has warned his play-off chasers victory cannot be taken for granted against rock-bottom Port Vale at Withdean on Saturday.

The Seagulls are on a high after ending a hectic and profitable March with back-to-back draws at Nottingham Forest and Leeds. Vale are doomed to the drop to League Two, despite staving off relegation by fighting back to beat Leyton Orient 2-1 at home, but Wilkins insists this is no time for complacency to creep in.

Wilkins said: "There is a massive danger in that and Saturday's game highlights that. We have got through a difficult month and we are still in the race but now is not a time to relax.

"The concentration levels and discipline have to continue to grow, otherwise you quite easily come unstuck in football.

"Saturday is a really big game for us. They have won their last two, so they are on a bit of a run, and they will be fighting for their lives, so it's a game as difficult as any we faced in the last month. It won't be any easier than the last two away games."

Wilkins, a likely contender for the League One manager of the month award, will nurse Tommy Elphick through training this week after the centre half came close to missing the draw at Leeds. "He didn't train on Friday after picking up a knock on his ankle and he was doubtful at that stage," Wilkins said.

"But he passed a fitness test on Saturday morning. He's had more treatment and we might give him another day's rest to make sure he is fully recovered and the soreness has gone."

Albion will drop a place to eighth if Leeds win their game in hand at third-placed Doncaster tonight. Fifth-placed Forest are at second-placed Carlisle.
