Andrew Whing is poised for a quick return to Albion's challenge for a play-off place.

The former Coventry right-back is almost certain to go straight back into the side in Saturday's showdown with Leeds at Elland Road after suspension and injury.

Whing was banned from last Saturday's home victory over Swindon and Monday's draw at Nottingham Forest following ten bookings.

His absence coincided with a calf injury, sustained in last week's defeat at Huddersfield.

Whing, who sat with the Albion fans to watch the Forest match, is back in training and will join up again with the rest of the squad on Thursday when they report back from a two-day break.

Gary Hart has deputised in the last two matches but he is not a natural right-back and Whing, established as first choice in that position, is hot favourite to regain his spot.

Albion are in limbo over the future of Ian Westlake. They are still in discussions with Leeds about extending the left-sided midfielder's month on loan to the rest of the season.

Westlake cannot play against his parent club on Saturday and may not have been fit anyway due to a calf problem which ruled him out at Forest.

His loan is due to expire with the home game against Port Vale on Saturday week.

The situation with Westlake is complicated. Not only are Leeds one of Albion's rivals for a play-off place, they would also have the right to recall him instantly once his loan spell moves into a second month.

That puts the Seagulls in a tricky position, with the loan transfer deadline expiring tomorrow.

Tommy Fraser (ankle) is expected to return to the squad on Saturday, while Sam Rents has recovered from injury to feature in the reserves against Wycombe Wanderers at Worthing on Wednesday evening (7pm).

Albion reserves (from): Sullivan; Winterton; Fogden, Butters, Pearson, Rents, Loft, McFaul, Wills, Robinson, Gatting, Dixon, Bryant, Louis, Ide, French.

Will you be pleased to see Andrew Whing back?
