Albion have secured another world record fee – for a manager or head coach.

The Seagulls will bank an unprecedented £22 million from Chelsea for the services of Graham Potter and his team.

That follows the £62 million they picked up from the west London club for Marc Cucurella, a world record for a full-back.

The sum received for Potter and his team potentially gives Albion more licence to pay a release fee for a replacement who is under contract elsewhere – or to offer a more attractive financial package.

Chairman Tony Bloom is weighing up what will be only his second managerial appointment since asking Chris Hughton to stave off the threat of relegation from the Championship almost eight years ago.

The sum received for Potter tops the £17.4 million paid by Bayern Munich to RB Leipzig for Julian Nagelsmann last year.
