Albion boss Dean Wilkins believes his team have a "serious chance" of making the play-off after ending their jinx against the top teams twice over.

The Seagulls struggled for results against the leading sides in League One earlier in the season.

That changed with Tuesday's win at Walsall and they followed up by inflicting only a second away defeat out of 15 on high-flying Doncaster.

Wilkins said: "We have done it twice in four days and what a great time to be doing it, because it gives us a serious chance now.

"That sort of thing can play on people's minds but we have no reason to fear anybody.

"We went to Carlisle and did well, even though we didn't get a result. We went to Walsall and picked up the three points and now we have got three great points against Doncaster."

Nicky Forster scored the only goal in the second half from the rebound after his penalty was saved by Neil Sullivan.

Rovers argued with the decision by referee Danny McDermid to award a spot-kick for a trip on Forster by Brian Stock.

Forster admitted: "I certainly don't like to think of myself as a cheat but it possibly was a soft penalty. Strikers run at defenders at pace and they sometimes go over. I didn't dive but I didn't appeal for it. There wasn't much contact."

Albion's joy at claiming their fifth victory out of seven has been tempered by the prospect of losing both full-backs for part of the run-in.

Matt Richards limped off in the first half with a hamstring injury and Andrew Whing is now suspended for two games after collecting his tenth caution of the campaign in the closing stages for a foul.

Whing is available for Tuesday's trip to Huddersfield but will miss the Easter matches at home to Swindon and away to Nottingham Forest.

Wilkins said of Richards' injury: "It looks pretty serious, not a tweak but more like a tear."

l Matt Foreman and Dan Royce got the goals as Albion under-18s won 2-0 at home to Colchester in the Youth Alliance South East Conference.
