Dean Cox has been left out of the Albion squad for the second match running.

Cox was not in the 18-man party that flew to Newcastle tonight in preparation for tomorrow's (Saturday) clash with Carlisle.

The little playmaker was dropped for Tuesday's 4-2 home win against Gillingham following remarks he made on the bench about team-mates after being substituted in last Saturday's 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient at Withdean.

It was the second time this season that Cox has been omitted on disciplinary grounds and his colleagues have gone on to prove he is not indispensable.

He was also axed for the 3-0 win at Swindon in December after a dressing room row in the previous game against Nottingham Forest.

Cox was brought back into the fold straight after the Swindon victory. His longer punishment this time reflects disappointment in the camp that he has not learnt his lesson.

Manager Dean Wilkins said: "I'm a fan of his and I want him to have a long and successful career at our club but our club is all about what happened during the week with Paul Samrah's award for fan of the year and also the award won by the community department.

"Paul had the humility to accept no self-adulation but to receive the award on behalf of everyone.

"That is what our club is about, everyone pulling together for the single cause of trying to make this club successful."

Albion are also without Dean Bowditch for todmorrow's (Saturday) test at Brunton Park. The on-loan Ipswich frontman faces a scan on Monday on a groin problem.

A groin injury restricted Bowditch's involvement in his first loan spell with the Seagulls last season and he eventually required a double hernia operation.

Bowditch's loan stint is due to expire following Tuesday's visit to Walsall.

Wilkins is backing the phlegmatic Glenn Murray to put a series of missed chances in the last two matches behind him against Carlisle, his home-town club and first professional club.

Wilkins said: "His temperament is such that I don't think it will matter whether he is going back to his home town and has got 50 members of his family there.

"I don't think it will affect him at all."
