We asked four long-time Albion fans for their thoughts on the 2-0 win at West Ham.
And we moved on to their early assessment of newly-arrived left-back Pervis Estupinan.
What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance at West Ham?
Colin Beales: I guess we shouldn’t be surprised at taking point from West Ham, but the Albion put in another really solid team performance that nicely nets us some more away points. West Ham started prettywell but goals change games and getting the penalty certainly seemed to give us something to build on. Hearing the West Ham fans boo their players at half-time showed the clear frustration that we were causing. Great to see us push on for the second and a comfy win.
Tim Ayling: Another tactical masterclass from Potter, executed perfectly by the lads. At no point was I particularly worried about West Ham, and it was a matter of time. Nice to score with our only two shots on target after the misses last week.
Alan Brownings: A really good performance. We kept them out for the first 15 minutes in each half and took our opportunities well when they arrived.
James Heasman: I thought Brighton were outstanding. We really have a well-drilled team, who are comfortable working the ball out or playing a more direct style. The fact that everyone is so relaxed on the ball, and understands tactical adjustments during the game, just shows what an excellent manager Graham Potter is. We were comfortable throughout.
Who was your pick of the Albion players?
Colin Beales: So many good performances from Sanchez when needed, Dunky protecting the lines, Gross and Trossard up to Danny up front. That said, if I have to call out one name I’d pick out Alexis Mac Allister, who is brilliantly filling his new role in the midfield.
Tim Ayling: So many to choose from. Webster was superb, Mac Allister had his best game of the season, but Welbs was probably the difference. He was a constant thorn in their side.
Alan Brownings: Danny Welbeck led the line really well again and won the penalty. He already looks twice as strong this season and a different class.
James Heasman: Everyone played their role well. Webster was back to his best, Dunk literally ‘owned’ Antonio, but I thought Alexis Mac Allister was superb and is another player we need to tie down to a long term deal.
Early thoughts on Estupiñán - and the tactical options his presence potentially opens up?
Colin Beales: It’s very early days but it was quite surprising how well he slotted in, particularly in an attacking sense. I’m not sure he was particularly well-tested defensively. A promising start that I’m sure will give Graham some selection headaches for the season ahead.
Tim Ayling: He looked rock solid and good going forward. He’ll enable us to change to a back four again given we don’t have another left back. More great business.
Alan Brownings: He looks a really good replacement for Cucurella and shows early signs of real promise. He’s going to cause a few people some problems.
James Heasman: He made a very promising start and ensures the team has more natural balance, especially if we shift to four at the back. Additionally, he can clearly cross well, so potentially, may give an alternative wing-back option. Another good piece of work by the recruitment team.
