Albion remain interested in Calvin Bassey – as competition for the Rangers defender appears to heat up.
The 22-year-old has been targeted by Ajax to replace Lisandro Martinez, who is heading to Manchester United.
Both Albion and Ajax are reported to have held talks with Rangers over Bassey.
A well-placed source has tonight confirmed he is still “of interest” to the Seagulls “and has been for a while”.
Bassey can play left-back and centre-back.
The Press Association report he has caught the eye of several clubs.
It is understood Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder has spoken to the Nigeria international by telephone.
Rangers are looking to bring in what could be a record fee for Bassey, who still has two years left on his current deal.
They biggest sum they have received to date was £11.5 million plus add-ons when Nathan Patterson moved to Everton in January.
