ALBION goalkeeper Jason Steele is still fighting to play as much football as possible despite being back-up to Robert Sanchez.

Steele has been at the club since 2018, but has mainly featured in the FA Cup and League Cup. He has made one Premier League appearance, which came in November as he replaced the suspended Sanchez.

The Spaniard has cemented himself as the club's first-choice and has even broken into the Spain national squad since coming into the Albion first-team.

While Steele is clearly happy to help Sanchez in his development, and delighted to see him doing so well, the 31-year-old still wants as much game-time as possible.

He told the club website: “You can ask anybody, I train the way I play and I’m ready when I’m called upon - I think I’ve proved that whenever I’ve been given the opportunity.

“Making my Premier League debut against Aston Villa was absolutely brilliant for myself and my family and I’ve been happy with my cup displays.

“My role in the squad hasn’t changed over the last couple of years but I will always be ready when I’m needed.”
